$80, really? Just get it. Bag will last you a while, get a fair amount of use and serve you well! Bags are generally quite expensive in my experience, $80 seems a steal to me.

I know, it's stupid. But for some reason $12 shipping always puts me off.

You're balking at $12 shipping? Man, we pay like $40, and then wait a week and a half. It's all relative though. In Australia, it's either do that, or don't get anything nice ever.

If you wanted you could probably have moderate success buying that beckel bag, dying it black and applying a wax coating. Would take some work but if you're bored one weekend it could turn out alright. Maybe test out the process on a $10 military surplus canvas bag first.
