Really simple tonight.
Gnocchi, asparagus tips, asparagus cream, parmesan.
Small margherita pizza.

Ok, I'll try it. But if I end up with liquidy asparagus I'm coming after you.

Panzanella

Travelling this week again. Had szechuan takeout the last two nights. Forgot to tell them to tone down the heat the first night so I read the paper cover to cover yesterday morning.

Don't bathe the damn asparagus in the stock. Just a few tablespoons would be adequate. The idea is to quickly coat the asparagus and reduce the stock so that it concentrates the flavor on the vegetable. If you drown your asparagus, it's your own damn fault.

I've already shifted blame to you. This is how it must be.

Sounds like today's lunch special at the Pink Dolphin Cafe.

I think testicles is what they have as the "Happy Hour Special". Not that I know anything about that myself, mind you.

On topic: I ended up a British-style pub in Kobe last night and had a very good Steak Pie and a pint of Old Speckled Hen. Hit the spot.

Tonight's dinner featured rosemary and basil fresh from my garden.

Rosemary and olive oil-rubbed pork tenderloin, and farfalle with homemade pesto. I did goof and put some hot water from the pasta straight into the pesto before tossing, which slightly cooked the basil and ruined the fresh green color. It still tasted yummy - I went heavy on the pine nuts and garlic for a little more bite and depth - but it really ruined the presentation. For dessert, baked peaches with a balsamic vinegar, vanilla, and sugar glaze, served with fresh-made whipped cream. All washed down with a nice Barolo we've had hanging around for a few months - we ran out of our everyday table wines. Time for a trip back to the liquor store!

Note Yorkie #1 at far left in first pic. They all got a nibble of tenderloin at the end of the night.

Looks delicious.

Nice mil-spec Seiko in the last picture, too.

Douglas-san,

Very nice! You do need some vegetables, I'm afraid....

I figured the green of the pesto was close enough.

Normally I am a stickler for getting a protein, a starch, and a veggie on the table.
