Women don't use either of those, but your weather needs are justified.

+1, if the weather calls for it, that seems fine to me. However, I think scarves are very different than pocket squares and ties. The chief purpose of a scarf to me is to keep you warm while ties/pocket squares serve more of an aesthetic, less functional purpose. This is why wearing one in most warm weather situations strikes me as overly "affected."

You've never seen a women in a tie?

Warmth is very personal sort of thing. The guy up the street was still wearing a sweater under his jacket a couple weeks ago. Over 30C and he was cold

I always thought the main point of a scarf was aesthetic.

During an English spring, I can absolutely understand a well-dressed gentleman wearing a nice scarf. It's a very versatile item - until, of course, you get the burst of 20+ degree sunshine through the otherwise sombre skies. Sweating into a scarf is the preserve of railway enthusiasts and sex offenders only.

How dainty.

Yeah, I agree with this. Can look good in theory, not so much in application. If it's cold enough to wear a scarf, wear a scarf. But I'm not buying this "It's a bit brisk" business. No coat, no scarf. Linen or translucent cotton scarf? Silly and affected.

When I lived in Scotland I wore them all the time (in appropriate summer weights, colours and materials, of course). I never cared much for the looks I got -- I'm sure the lookers didn't care that I don't like Irn-Bru.

Do you guys think that if you come out from a summer dip in the pool, and yet it's a bit chilly, that it would be fine to wrap a scarf around your neck? It would have to coordinate with your swim trunks, of course.
