Uniqlo in SoHo

So in this month's GQ I was looking at some of the summer suits they had and noticed that one really nice looking one was only $120 and it was from Uniqlo? I know they only have one store in the US which stinks because I live in Dallas, but does anyone know anything about this brand? I know they are Japanese.

They are sort of like a Japanese H&M or Zara, but of slightly higher quality IMO. I've never been to the store in NY, but the Uniqlo in Tokyo is pretty amazing. Lots of great clothes for ridiculously low prices. Reasonably high-quality jeans for the equivalent of $40 US, for instance.

I saw that too. For a seasonal, beater suit, that's a great price, assuming the suit looks as good on you as it does on the model.

I was in the SoHo store about a month ago. It's a neat place to shop -- big open spaces, split levels, glass elevator, etc. As for the clothes I honestly didn't see anything too exciting; they offer a million variations each on basics like raw denim, polos, cardigans, etc. I could see going there for some basics but I wouldn't make a pilgrimage for it. Of course, it is within a few blocks of Ted Baker, Ben Sherman, Muji, Odin, etc.

Reminded me of a trendier version of Old Navy to tell the truth.. I spent about 5 minutes looking around but wouldn't buy anything, quality looked pretty poor.

Japanese brand but all the clothes I looked at had "Made in China" tags. Right now they have lots of chinos in the store; some have a smooth dressier finish. I bought some slim fitting lightweight trousers (98% wool, 2% spandex; houndstooth; lined to the knee in poly) on sale for $39.

I purchase some of their slim fit dress trousers ($39 right now on sale) and have them tapered and cuffed at my tailor. Not bad for the price.

you still need to have slim fitting trousers tapered? what's the measurement across the leg opening pre-taper?

You absolutely don't, unless you're starring in an '80s period movie. Their slim fit trousers have a narrow straight fit. For that matter, uncuffed > cuffed as well, but to each his own...

Bought my GF a trench from there that she really likes. Unlike H&M they only have S,M,L sizes in jackets which is frustrating.

Does anyone have a pair of these chinos? I'm wondering what the fit's like, especially the waist and how true it is to the given size.

The fit on a lot of tailored stuff is a little wonky. But their casual trousers for $39 aren't bad and neither are their "slim straight" selvage jeans in raw Japanese denim for $89.

That said, I'd still walk 2 blocks down Bway and pick up some Incotex casual trousers at Daffy's for $19.99 instead.

They have a 20cm opening and I perfer a 18.5-19 cm opening. It's anal I know but I like what I like. I also have a 30-31 waist and a slim build if that matters.

From what I have seen on this forum, and from my own tendencies, that is far from anal. But thanks for you using cm's, now I have to convert to inches...
