What purpose does ozone have in treating jeans? Nathan Bogle told me in an e-mail that my RB2s have
a very slight rinse and some resin/ozone applied to them

Very interesting. I wonder if my RB11s have the same. The tag says "colour: denim - rigid."

Hi all denimnerds

Maybe add "Crock" or "Crocking" and "Resin" to the list? If a definition is needed
i'll gladly write it, although my skills as a writer is somewhat limited.

Hi! What are "atari"? They seem to occur on belt loops. And the presence of a thick wallet seems to create them. But what are they? Is it fading caused by an object under the denim??? Or any fading cause by concavity, such as seams, perhaps? It is confusing. The google translation of denim-gallery.jp is not helping. I'd like a good clear picture of "chevrons", because I haven't yet had this explained with clarity.

Here's a page worth reading.

A quote concerning shuttle looms used in Japan:
"In response, Hidehiko Yamane's company, Evis (changed to Evisu, for obvious legal reasons), developed the first reproduction vintage Levi's in 1987. By the nineties Japanese companies such as Sugar Cane, Iron Heart, and Denime were crafting limited-edition near-museum-quality replicas of classics like the 1947 Levi 501 and 1942 Lee 101B. All three labels used the ancient indigo dyes that caught on with collectors such as Ayre. They also wove the cotton into denim on a type of mechanical loom that had been sitting in factory basements in Okayama, the country's weaving capital, since the seventies. These machines produced narrow fabric (30 inches wide as opposed to the standard 70), yielding a cloth with a denser thread count, a softer feel, and a finished edge. Called selvage denim, it is now among the most hotly pursued premium jean material in the world."

by crocking, do you mean fading indigo? I'm not sure if that's exactly what it means. I've sort of used crocking to mean the fading that occurs on the whiskers, chevrons, honeycombs, whatever.

diddamall, I'm a little confused myself about some of the definitions as some fadings have several ways commonly used to describe.

To the best of my knowledge:

Crocking is the fading of indigo that occurs when the denim/fabric is rubbed against something. I'm sure you could use crocking as a term to describe what makes whiskers and fades in general.

As for the resin treatment:

Jeans that has a deep indigo dye and is NOT treated with resin makes your hands blue if you rub them. Resin does NOT, however, prevent your jeans from fading the usual way (whiskers and all that).

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
