Moved to Northern Virginia, Recs for tailor?

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and in need of a little advice. I just bought a couple suits for work and took them to a tailor here in northern virginia, and was basically forced to overpay because I need them in a few days. Can anyone recommend a good tailor in the Fairfax area with reasonable prices? I've got several shirts that need taken in and a few other things. Thanks a lot

Mr. Lee, Best Custom Tailors. 9126 Lee Highway, Fairfax, Virginia. Had a bunch of shirts, pants, and sport coats slimmed down by him, great results every time. $20 to take in a shirt on the sides along with the sleeves, ~$20 to take the seat of the pants in, ~$15 to taper the leg, ~$30 for waist suppression on a jacket, ~$75 for significant waist and chest suppression requiring opening up the sleeves.

Resurrecting this thread The tailor I have been using for years was retired and worked from home part time. He's retired from his part time work now, and refuses to do any more work regardless of my pathetic begging. I always loved his work, feeling helpless now, 'specially with a few pairs of pants needing work. Both of these recommendations above - do the folks mentioned there do ALL the work themselves? Also, does anyone use or know a master tailor that does side work from home? I hear most tailors do, so I'm hoping someone has a personal relationship with a tailor from a hi-end store like James. You can PM me if you dont want to specify someone publicly.

Best custom tailors do all the work in house as far as my experience with them goes. I think the only thing that's farmed out is cleaning.

Is he willing to do sleeve alterations on dress shirts? I may need to shorten a few barrel cuff shirts without throwing the gauntlet button position all out of whack

Also, any more recomendations for NOVA tailors, particularly in Fairfax or something farther away from the beltway?

Damn, all you guys are in the NoVA area? How come we haven't had a cool forum meetup yet, someplace like Clyde's / Cafe Milano, etc?

Everyone I know who needs major surgery goes to Fields in DC, especially for tricky alterations (but heard he takes a LONG time to complete a job).

I've had a very good experience with Matt's Tailor at the corner of Broad (leesburg pike) and Maple Avenue in Falls Church, he has done everything from tapering shirts/ shortening shirt sleeves to noting and altering suit collars and sides, etc. for me. I was especially pleased with what he did on my 3 button brioni, which fits much better and looks more polished than it ever has before.

I heard about Fields and called for prices....all I can say is Holy Crap he's expensive. I wanted to get a sportcoat tailored and he wanted $60 to shorten sleeves and $20 per button. It would have run me $220 before he even touched the body of the jacket.
I have had good luck taking some pieces into the Zegna boutique in Tysons II for work. They are about half the price of Fields.

I lived out in NoVa for two summers, when I was there I used Sali at Reed's Custom Tailors, 5181 Lee Highway -- it was really a tuxedo rental place but he did really nice work on a few of my suits.

yeah, he's pretty high. Ive never inquired about the break down of his prices, but last time I went in with two new OTR suits needing standard alterations (hem, sleeves, and waist) plus functional buttonholes on the sleeves and a couple of pairs of odd trousers and it was $500.

Field is pricey and takes some time, but the quality of the finished product is top notch. Will Field is a good guy to boot, and will absolutely accommodate you if you require a quick turn-around. He also hosts the occasional trunk show for Harvie & Hudson, and Paul Davies (a/k/a The London Shoemaker).
