Chicago Tailor - shorten sleeves from shoulder

Despos, a member on here could answer your question. You might want to PM him. I'm having that done right now with a suit of mine but won't get it back till June 9. My tailor says he does it all the time with no problem.

Sometimes they MIGHT be able to take a tiny bit of length taken from the shoulders. A tailor once messed up my sleeve length, made it a half inch too long. It wasn't possible to take enough from the shoulders to satisfy me, so he ended up just doing the sleeves all over. It was partly my fault because I didn't pay enough attention to the length at the first fitting. If this is a RTW jacket, you'll probably have to have it shortened from the ends if it's more than a quarter inch too long. If the buttonholes are too close then you're probably out of luck.

Chris Despos and he makes custom suits and also does alterations in Chicago. Very knowledgable and straightforward.

I'm reviving my old thread because I never found a solution. Despos does not do alterations any longer (perhaps for you long-time customers but not for us new guys). Richard Bennett tailors told me flat-out that no tailor could to it properly (which I think is BS given all of the good experiences you guys recite). So, one more time - anybody aware of a Chicago-area tailor who can shorten suit sleeves from the shoulder?

Nobody? Come on, I want one of Simon's Kiton's but need to deal with the sleeve issue. If any of you have a Chicago-area tailor who can shorten from shoulder, please let me know - feel free to PM if you want to avoid wide distribution of this obviously valuable info!!

If you find a good tailor, post their info. My experiences have run from mediocre to poor.

Contrary to Tomasso, I've always been pleased with Paul Chang's work, deportment, and temperament. I recommend you take your jacket to Paul and ask him what he thinks about what you're looking for.
