How can you wear one of these and maintain the classy look?

Ask yourself this question:

"Am I Phat Guido?"

If the answer is no, don't bother trying.

I wear a fedora in bad weather in winter, but it's had the daylights beat out of it, so at least it doesn't look I just brought it out for a costume party. My girlfriend hates it.

I tend to think fedoras are less conspicuous in a cold drizzle, say, than on a balmy spring day. For guys under 50 or so, they need the right setting, and they need a certain attire, either very dressy or a little eccentric. (My stuff leans toward the latter category.) The hat and T-shirt combo so popular with fat guys ought to be eradicated.

In summer, I wear a panama, which my girlfriend considers equally crazy. But I think she finds it more appealing than the beat-up fedora.

No, I probably couldn't. I don't have the right wardrobe to accompany wearing a hat. Even still, I'd never wear one. I don't think they have any place in this day and age.

If you don't wear one to the next SF in SF, I'll have bmulford lay an aikido whuppun' on you. That, and with whatever LabelKing is wearing, no one will notice your hat.

I want to, but i would feel pretentious. On the other hand, i used to feel pretentious tucking in my shirt or wearing a scarf, so it could be one of the things i work on

I don't go outdoors without a hat of some sort ... most often a fedora.
