H1N1 Swine Flu Style- (No This is Not a Humor Post)

Lets keep it short...

I have to travel to cities where H1N1 / Swine Flu is a big deal. I have to look damn good doing it however.

Enroute to my client I have to go up escalators, elevators, subways, many doors etc.. I also have to go out with the client through the same obstacle course.

I am considering either wearing white rubber gloves, which make me look like I am about to give a prostate exam OR wear white cotton doorman gloves.

First, will the doorman gloves give me any meaningful protection (virus expert anyone?)

Second, am I going to look like a freak or can this convincingly be pulled off with some class.


I am trying to be polite, as they are proud of their city, but I also want to protect myself.

Any advice?

Can't you just bring a bottle of hand sanitizer and use that frequently?

The gloves won't give you any protection. There's not really anything you can do, so may I recommend: http://shouldibeworriedaboutswineflu.com/

Wear the rubber gloves under the regular gloves. But I don't think white doorman gloves are the answer, I'm sure there are other gloves you can wear.

I think clearly you are overreacting and are going to look like a major freak should you wear gloves in any situation that is not appropriate. IE, winter, driving a race car, etc.

My advice is to quit worrying. The chances of catching this bullshit is beyond small, regardless of how much news organizations try to freak people out. I used to work at a supermarket and when the mere possibility of snow was announced on the news a stampede ensued and the shelves were cleared of milk and bread as if the production of both was somehow going to cease or you'd be snowed in under 34 feet and would have to suffer the risk of being without.

You cannot, and I repeat, CANNOT pull this off with any modicum of class. Be a man and forget about it.

Im no scientist, but if the virus is powerful enough to really off people like the plague I think rubber gloves wouldn't do much.

Stop overreacting. This flu is weaker than the normal season flu. But I do like the bespoke face mask idea.

While i don't think it's weaker than the regular flu it is however certainly not like the avian flu or sars. Just be mindful of washing your hands regularly, and keep your self sanitized and you'll be fine
