This movie came on last night, its been years since I've seen it. I'm not sure who did the costume design, but that movie is like a catalog of outstanding menswear. Incredible suits, and they have a surprisingly modern cut to them. Google "the sting redford newman" and then hit the "Images" tab to see what I mean...

You have no idea how much I love those wide, bold stripes on Redford's suit.

Love The Sting. Though I did hate the bold-striped burgundy suit Newman wore in the initial scene.

??

Are you thinking of the brown w/red striped suit that Redford wears after he makes the first score? I agree, it was awful.

Newman's first scene is in a tank top. After that he takes Redford shopping where he dresses him in classy stuff. Newman's suits are always good in that movie.

That's the one I'm thinking of. I wouldn't wear it, but I think it's fitting with his character: hustler makes a bunch of money, blows it all on a pimpish suit and gambling.

I couldn't stop thinking that while I was watching the movie.

Yup, that's probably the one. Its been awhile seen I last saw the movie, but I remember it as a garish burgundy with white chalk stripes. I'm probably wrong.

Are there other movies as good at representing the Apparel Arts era of clothing? The Great Gatsby, I'd imagine, though I haven't seen it.

'The Hustler' is great. Jackie Gleason's, Minnesota Fats, is sharp as hell!
