Gel works well for the wet look. It'll be crunchy when it drys, but if you run your fingers through your hair later in the day it'll retain the part. I normally use paul mitchell soft spray gel or leave-in conditioner (more natural look).

i'm in the process of finding a new hair style, but my preferences always come back to one with a part on the side.
my hair is very short on the sides and back, with the top varying in length depending on the season, mood, etc.
