Apparently I was bored... Don't ask me to name them - I haven't a chance. I forgot that the lizard-skin-handled brolly was hanging by the front door as it had just returned from shopping in Cambridge.

And the funny thing is, it never rains in the UK

Thanks all. A combination of Bar Hill and sale time at SAB St James's St (which naturally has the nicest umbrellas - the cheaper ones might go back t the factory shop) eg second on right is a silk canopy and gold collar - tag shows RRP was £315; reduced first to £135 then to £70. Bar Hill is hit and miss - never worth a trip from London just for the shop. I went past the area regularly for a while so dropped in maybe a dozen times - half the time, no more than 3-4 umbrellas that were about half RRP at around £125-£150 - at other times, almost all more standard nylon canopy umbrellas, some one-piece some not, typically £50 each - these are all also sold online.
I got lucky with the lizard-skin - not cheap (about half RRP) but pretty rare for the factory shop to have.
The other interesting thing about the store is you might see the boxes of items in for repair, many going back decades; also, you see the full range of stores which have goods made by Papworth. No real surprises, but a bit wider than just SAB.
If I'm taking someone for a tour of the area, I'll try to include Bar Hill - haven't been back there this year though.
I turned down an RLPL sterling silver handled umbrella recently, at £160, lightly used. Hmmm.
It's fun having the different canopy colours to choose from; and the woods all feel so different in the hand. Some are very thick and smooth; some medium and knotted; others gnarled, bony and cold like the hands of a soon-to-be-departed grandparent; some seem to yield slightly as you grip them and have their own warmth; while others feel utterly unyielding, with an almost steel-like coldness. Yes, I am still discussing umbrellas.

Does anyone here know who makes the Ede & Ravenscroft umbrellas? The only label on mine is "Made in England"

^ I want to say they're Fox, but really, that's more of a guess or maybe false memory rather than true recall.

Aha. So that means I have a Fox umbrella. Now I shall go boast to my father about my newfound Steedness.

yeah the price strangely follows the pricing of Fox umbrella for matching design with an added 5 pounds or so.

Anyone know anywhere that sells men's umbrellas for shorter people? Most places only seem to so 25" or 27" frames whereas I need something more like 21-22", the only ones I can find that are the right length are all women's ones
