Would you get patch pockets on the coat of a three piece suit? How would you do the vest pockets?

Patch pockets for the vest seems like it would look bad. I don't recall ever seeing it. No doubt tutee has an AA illustration that shows it, but I still can't warm up to the idea.

Had one of these very briefly in an alpaca blend. Didn't fit me right, so I sold it. Very cool looking and unusual. It didn't have patch pockets on the vest. Would probably be willing to do it again.

Why don't you just go and have your six piece suit done up?

Is that the ultimate swiss army suit?

I think I am going to trim that back to four. I don't need another DB vest, and I probably don't need two trousers.

I would feel bad for your tailor, but I realize Portnoy will be ordering seven 12-piece suits.

Patch on a three-piece sounds very unattractive.

It would be a tweed suit, donegal most likely, if that matters.

The real question is not whether I get patch pockets; it's whether I get a vest.

My two cents: nothing wrong with a two- or three-patch pockets coat for a three-piece suit, but I would get regular welted pockets for the vest, especially if the cloth is worsted (actually, I think patch pockets look wrong on most worsteds anyway, coats included, but that's probably just me).

Mind you, there is a picture of a patch ticket pocket in that old anglomania thread (remember? It's on a blueish tweed coat), and it looks rather neat, if slightly affected. So small patch pockets can look good even when prominently displayed. But it's certainly a risky move.

EDIT: I see it's a Donny. In that case patch pockets would look good even if it's a worsted tweed, of course. Not that I like worsted tweeds, but still.

I've made patch on a vest for a client but the vest cloth matched the trouser and both were worn with sportcoats. That was his signature look. Never made him a suit or a sportcoat without a vest.
