I think it grows on you.

I actually saw it twice in the theater - well almost twice. The first time during the fight/fire scene at the theater the actual fire alarm went off and we were taken out of the theater.

I went back and watched it again - with the final 10-minutes - a week later with my free pass.

Got it on DVD Wednesday and watched it again and it is better than I originally thought.

I think it will hold up well as a piece of the franchise.

Plus, after growing up on Roger Moore it certainly isn't any worse than Moonraker or A View to a Kill.

To reiterate what previous posters have said, QoS definitely grows on you. I got it and "watched" it in the background as we were having poker night and then again last night when I actually sat down and watched it. It is a great movie in terms of action, and ties up the loose ends of Casino Royale rather nicely. It also develops Bond and his relationship with MI6 pretty well. I also like how Bond didn't bang "the" Bond girl (Kurylenko); why, I don't know. It is hard to put my finger on it.

The only thing that I disliked about the film was the opening credits. The Casino Royale opening was so fresh and original, while QoS was trying to revive the campiness of older Bond movies, taking a huge step backwards in redefining the franchise. Also the song had to be the worst Bond theme ever.

I'd like to think it's because he was still getting over Vespa.

I know this is somewhat contradicted by him sleeping with Fields but I imagine that was more to get her to let him do what he needed to do in Bolivia.

All that being said, I wish he HAD banged Olga just to get a better view of that amazing body.

She should buy a lifetime supply of whatever bronzer they sprayed her with.

^^ Was that appalling scar on Olga's back part of her character/make-up, or is that really there?

I think they make reference to that being a burn scar from her childhood run-in with the General.

Yep - it's a remnant of when the General killed her family and burned down their house. It's why she freezes when the hotel is on fire at the end.

^^Ahh, thanks. I must have missed that brief reference. I have a problem with properly hearing people with non-American accents. You might as well subtitle it for me. That's probably why I had to watch this movie a second time to truly enjoy it.

What sort of accent does Mathis have? I couldn't quite place it. Was he MI-6 or an agent for some other country?

I think Quantum is OK, but I fear the Bond series will continue to have problems reconciling the Cold War Bond with the post-millennium world he now operates in. I understand Sebastian Faulks and Charlie Hilson have been writing stories for the past few years, but I don't know if the franchise will use them as the basis for upcoming movies.

Check out Hitman and Max Payne. Ok, you might HAVE to watch all of Hitman, which isn't that bad, but you wont have to suffer through Max Payne all too much (SPOILER:

You can turn it off after she dies.)

Oh - I've seen both. They killed her off WAY too early in Max Payne.

QoS:

it has it all: plane, boat and car chases.. it has the villians and the a-typical bond girls, and it had Bond being well 'bondish' but it was criticized for several main reasons.

Generally speaking the contemporary references with resources in Bolivia (not too mention most of south/central america), the emphasis on a jason bourne bond (i.e., no Q/no gadgets) and it's the first in 22 films to have a linear story line that lines up with Casino Royale (with regards to the death of Vespa and not counting the death of his wife in IHMSS and allusions later on).

Really they took a step, I enjoyed it and it grows on me the more I watch it. As far as I'm concerned if people want to complain about bonds throughout the ages look at moonraker, never say never again (parody, almost really) and die another day just to name a few.

Speaking of Die another day....

FFS, you guys, it's Vesper and not "Vespa." Vesper Lynd. Pronounced with a British accent, it sounds sort of like "Vespa," so I'll grant you that. But she is not a motor scooter, and sne is not the princess from Spaceballs.

Also, QoS is pretty bad. It's rewatchable, mainly for the aesthetic values, including the women. But it's a pretty bad movie.

Agree. I started watching it a couple weeks ago.... the opening chase scene was to boring to continue.
