Alden and Allen Edmonds (American) Vs. Crockett, Lobb, Green (English)?

So I've been searching for some decent shoes for dress occasions. I've noticed a considerable price disparity between what is arguably top of the line American made shoes and commensurate English made shoes. Perhaps someone can help disabuse my biased belief that somehow the price reflects, even if to a smaller degree, some tentative measure of quality?

There is an increase from quality and design for AE and Alden to mid tier british makers.

I definitely think C & J's are better designed. But are they better made? Is the leather better?

Buy one of each & judge for yourself.

I am sure that the OP is aware that it is possible to buy something from each brand and then make the determination on his own. It seems that by making the post he wanted to have opinions from others.

You'll get much nicer leather, finishing, and overall fineness in a Lobb than in an Alden. But, the Lobb won't necessarily last longer and is not necessarily more durable.

I have a few Lobbs. I will never buy another pair. They are beautiful shoes, but I don't baby my shoes and they get scuffed and scratched all the time. Alden leather is good enough to be aged and gain a patina, I like Alden's styling better than Lobb's, and Aldens are a third to a fifth of the price. An easy choice--but that's just me.

aren't you 17, and posted a thread about how you don't want to spend money on law school because its so expensive?

but you're asking quality level on shoes that retail for $1000+?

What's wrong with asking about quality of shoes at that price? OP tries to see the difference between top shoemakers of the two countries and see if the price difference really reflect their difference in quality.

Does anyone know if you can find any of these brands in the Philadelphia area? I went to outlets this weekend but the shoe selection was pure junk. I liked the Allen Edmonds but I don't know where to find them and I'm nervous about ordering on the internet without getting a chance to try them on. Thanks.
