So, in the middle of the BB warehouse madness I scored TWO lovely Golden Fleeces in 50L. I'm normally a 46L or 48L, but the length and shoulders were perfect and I figured the in-house tailors could do their magic.
Well, I picked them up yesterday and they're overly generous on me. I could fit a fifth of Jack Daniel in the fabric hanging around my front.
The tailor says they can't take in the sides any more (already taken in 2") and I'm stuck, next time shell out the dinero for MTM. Am I hosed? Is it worth going for a 2nd opinion? Any recommendations on a miracle-working tailor in NYC?

Well, I picked them up yesterday and they're swimming on me. I could fit another Mr. Caber in the fabric hanging around my front. I could go double breasted on these no problem.

Here's where you f*cked up.

Cut your losses and sell. Next time, think a little before letting a "deal" fool you. Ain't such a good deal now is it?

4 inches? Seriously, no tailor can fix the shoulder of a suit to make it look reasonably nice.

I made the mistake in the past of buying suits that were too big and trying to cut them down. They never end up working. Live and learn.

And, BTW, whenever I buy Brooks stuff, I always take it out of their unaltered and take to an independent alterations tailor

It's not their fault that you bought a suit that was 2-4 sizes too big for you.

Yeah. I don't think your title is appropriate. Brooks Brothers did not fail. You bought a suit that was way too big. The proper title you be:

"I thought I got a good deal when I bought a suit that was 4 sizes too big"

Here is a RLPL Linen Jacket after taking the shoulder in over 1 inch:

Well, they're not unwearable, they just look boxy. As before, the shoulders and sleeves are spot on (even the tailor said so). I'm 270 pounds for crying out loud, how can these things be so big on me?
Adding insult to injury, my sartorial god fairy left me another $15 46L birdseye Hugo Boss at Salvation Army that fits to a tee. So, thanks for that...

Oh, yeah it is. They shouldn't have done the work if they couldn't do it right.

That's not BB issue. You should have checked the size before hand!

I do the same thing. My last in-house tailoring job at BB left me with uneven lengths on the legs of a pair of pants. It was extremely frustrating.

I wouldn't have guessed. Probably not something that just any alterations guy could/would do, though.
