This isn't a thread for the U2 haters so please keep the negative comments out.

Anyway, been a big fan for a while, but I'm not the type of fan who worships everything they do. I thought All That You Can't Leave Behind and the Elevation tour were great. Last cd was decent. I thought it had a lot of decent songs top to bottom, but nothing that I thought was absolutely great. I was pretty disappointed with the tour though. Thought it was Elevation part 2 and the set was a little flat.

This cd is definitely a different direction than the last two. I think it has some good songs, but it's almost the anti U2 album in a way. Some songs have a great build up, but no pay off. There isn't that big chorus that so many U2 songs have. I'm curious to see how the songs come off live though because most of the time their songs are way better when they're stripped down in a live setting. This might be the type of cd that is great for the car or at home, but might not be the best live set of songs. So far I like No Line on the Horizon, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender (love this one), Unknown Caller, Crazy Tonight. Can't stand get on your boots. I think Breathe is decent. Not too crazy about anything else.

I don't understand how you could say that Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop were done for the masses. Maybe the last two were for the masses, but this new one isn't.

I also don't understand how you can they are not relevant. A lot of the big bands out there today (Killers, Coldplay) have been heavily influenced by these guys.

Radiohead fan? Just because the music isn't out there and experimental doesn't mean it sucks. I used to like Radiohead a lot up until Ok Computer. There have been a few songs here and there I've liked, but not a lot.

No, I don't buy music at the Virgin Megastore. I don't like the Killers, but they are a pretty popular band today.

Out of the bands you listed I only know Depeche Mode. I'll have to check out the other bands. But it is music though, so it's all subjective, right?

Ok, so VnV:

VNV Nation are an electronic music band originally from Wexford and London, now based in Hamburg, that combines elements of trance, synthpop and electronic body music (EBM), into what they call futurepop. Earlier works also include some electro-industrial influences. The members are Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson. The "VNV" in the name stands for Victory, not Vengeance, in keeping with the group's motto, "One should strive to achieve; not sit in bitter regret.[1]"

I'd have to hear this, but with words descriptions like trance/synthpop/electronic body music it sounds like I won't like it. But, I will check it out.

you're just upset that they sold out and got rich and adored in the process. FWIW - I loved their first four, but Joshua Tree turned my world upside down and I thought nothing could top it. Achtung Baby topped it.

Nothing since has come close IMHO, but we'll see about this new one.

How did they sell out? I don't understand that? They did the Joshua Tree, which made them the biggest band in the world. Instead of doing the same old thing, they came back with Achtung Baby which was 360 in the opposite direction. Lucky for them, it ended up working. Never understood the whole sold out thing.

They started writing radio-friendly anthems. Pandering to the masses instead of their previous rougher-edged fare. Evidently they Found what they were Looking For.
