Let your hair grow out a little bit then go see a good stylist (not Supercuts). If it is grown out they have more options. Get some ideas of styles you like by looking in magazines, bring them with you and get feedback from the stylist.

Even if you want a short haircut, it's better to go to the stylist with some length. Like JohnGalt said, having a little length gives the stylist more options. They can always remove length to get it to where you want it, but it's impossible to add it.

Also, I +1 to JohnGalt's statement on going to a stylist. You may feel weird going to a salon, and it's more expensive, but it's worth every penny of difference to avoid the atrocities SuperCuts tends to carry out on hair. Like anything else, if you want it done right go somewhere good.

Parted on the side might look good. You can go for the preppy clean-cut look but not look nerdy.

Regardless, go to a good stylist. You won't get a good haircut from Supercuts or a cheap chain. A good stylist can help you decide on a suitable haircut.

Patrick Basset at Frederic Fekkai. He does wonders and actually cuts Fekkai's hair. Some find the price steep ($155.00). 212.753.9500

Grow it out. You're only 18. Soon enough you'll be square like us and won't be able to.

See my avatar for suggestions.
