I only use conditioner. Lexol is good, but I have since switched to saphir neutral cream conditioner/cleaner.

Great conditioner for all leather goods.
Although, quite frankly, I like my briefcase to look like it's been to war a few times.

The great thing about black is that you don't have to worry about whether it will darken the leather. Any good boot oil or leather conditioner should do the trick. Some people find Lexol has a funny smell, some don't. Bicks is great stuff by all accounts, doesn't darken brown leather, and doesn't have the smell. You can usually find it online for pretty cheap.

I've used Bick's and it does a great job. I've used other conditions with success also. I'd never put polish on a bag for fear it would rub off on my clothing.
