If you had to list some of the most essential or desirable items for a fashionable man, what would they be?

Ill start out with a few, to give people an idea of what im talking about:

1. Fitted white t-shirt. Cheap, simple, and looks great in a wide variety of settings.
2. A trench coat by burberry, aquascutum, or another premium name. throw it over anything, and you look great.
3. A full-length mirror. Nuff said.

- More importantly a variety of fitted white, light blue, and light pink solid and patterned dress shirts and BD's.
- Charcoal Suit
- Navy Sportcoat
- A pattern Sportcoat
- A variety of wool pants from creme to dark brown, including a spectrum of grays. With buttons for suspenders or side tabs....to hell with belts.
- Gray Flannel pants
- A variety of cotton pants with belt loops
- Brown Loafers
- Black Interview shoes (mine are wingtips, **** the groupthink)
- A variety of brown dress shoes
- A White linen pocket square
- A Variety of pocket squares that aren't white.
- About 10 pair of cotton socks in all colors from light to dark
- About 10 pairs of Wool socks in darker colors
- Ties in burgundy and navy, pindots and solids.

Nice list, but far more than the bare essentials. For example, a real minimalist would only need one white linen square- goes with everything. Not fun, I know, but is all that's really "essential."

Good, high quality, well fitting dress shirts x 6.
A few, linen pocket squares
A stunning, well made, Red and White striped tie. I never had one till this Christmas, its my closing tie.

My bare essentials....lol....a bit more then what you really need to survive. Agreed however.

Good umbrella, full length and sturdy enough to lean on. No plastic. (Does not apply if you live in a desert)
Nice sunglasses (don't cheap out)
Good leather bag
Nice gloves (needn't be terribly expensive)
Buttondowns in white and blue
Navy cardigan. I like a chunky knit with a shawl collar.
Navy suit
Good shoes: black balmoral captoes and brown somethings. I'd go with chelseas.
White linen or cotton square with mid-blue edging
Black grenadine tie. Burgundy too, if you're feeling decadent
Tan chinos that fit well
Interesting coat (Both this and the gloves assume you live in a climate that requires them. If not, the list grows even shorter.)

The rest you can fake.

The chick who's been trimmin' my tootsies for prit near a decade in Miami Beach just busted a move to Key West. Good on her, but I feel that I've lost an Essential Item.

I concur with Doc's list. I addition to his list:

- Navy blazer pr odd jacket
- Mid-gray or charcoal suit
- Good pen
- Good watch
- Decent dress belt (not necessarily expensive)
- Decent casual belt (not necessarily expensive)
- Good pair of glasses (for those who wear them)

A hot chick.

Everything else is unnecessary when you got the above.
