^ Isn't there a street in Kensington Market with several thrift stores? I remember them being pretty good, esp. for sweaters, duffle coats, denim and flannel shirts.

Recently bought this early '80's thrift tie for $1.05. The hook is that I sold clothes at Marty's in Ann Arbor then and this label is from the East Lansing (Mich State U) store run by one of Marty's sons.

Haven't bragged in a while, but I recently picked up a BB peak lapel tuxedo that fits me almost perfectly, including a cummerbund, two bow ties and the white silk braces, for $60. Not sure I need it, so it might show up for sale at some point.

The annual Junior League of Phoenix Rummage Sale was yesterday. I was working, but my wife found me a nice pull-over, button-down, cotton, Reyn Spooner aloha shirt for $2.

But I'd be pretty irritated if there was something I wanted and had nothing to trade, or the other guy traded it to someone else while we were negotiating.

Maybe you guys could start a thread in B&S and see how it goes? My reluctance is just having yet another forum to check, especially when I suspect it won't get that much traffic, in terms of items posted.

I'm with Doc.

Found a week's worth of Hamilton shirts and a solid navy Savile Row suit from someone I've never heard of. Any insight on this maker?

It appears that Dege & Skinner is at the address on the label... what does this mean? Was this suit made by Dege & Skinner? Did Helman rent space at Dege & Skinner? Who is Helman anyway? edit: I see there were two brothers, Harry and Burt Helman. Evidently they merged with Dege about 15 years ago... Darren Beaman considered them among the "best of the best"... Harry & his brother Burt sold the business to Dege & Skinner back in the mid 1980s... According to M. Edwards, "Harry & Burt Helman were part of the heart and soul of Savile Row. They were more than 'consummate craftsmen.' Their commitment to quality, their workmanship, the traditions they upheld were what made Savile Row Savile Row." This NY Times article mentions that Harry and Burt Helman were "prominent tailors who have dressed both royalty and Rothschilds." Helman was once voted Tailor of the Year -- "Harry Helman, of Bruton Street, Mayfair has become Tailor of the Year- winning four trophies and a gold medal - with one all-wool suit entered in this year's Tailor and Cutter exhibition. The suit is a slim, single-breasted, button-one lounge suit in a 10 oz. all-wool worsted Fresco cloth in blue-grey dogstooth check (by Gagniere). The trophies were the Clegg Cup, the Wain Shiell Lightweight Trophy, the Fresco Trophy and the Blue Riband of the tailoring trade - The Tailor and Cutter Dandy. Mr Helman shares premises with his brother Burt (who specialises in women's tailoring) and commenting on their preferences for all-wool materials, Burt Helman said: "We use 100% all-wool cloths. They are wonderful materials for tailoring." Picture of Helman suit mentioned above:

"Harry Helman, a tailor who is no longer with us, said many times: 'The number of stitches doesn't count. What matters is the right stitch in the right place.'"

It's about a 42 R and thankfully it fits me like a dream! Of course I would have picked it up even if it wasn't my size and offer it up on the newly created Official Thrifter's Trading Post!
