Never been out imho.

I prefer a plain gold or silver bar rather than a pin - nothing ostentatious.

One thing - where do people wear them? I mean quite high on the tie or lower down.

I prefer to wear mine high so that it can be seen when the middle button of a 3 button jacket is fastened. I can't see the point of the lower position - it doesn't offer any great improvement in tie restriction and can have the distressing effect of drawing attention to one's corporation..

Had to dig up an oldie, I couldnt find too many threads on tie bars.

Any feedback on this look? I just bought a $12 tie bar at target, simple and nice. The tie is a cheap 50/50, poly/cotton square end tie.

First, the knot seems a little weird with this collar, any recommendations on tying it? The fabric is real thin. Second, is the tie bar too prenetentious with a square end tie if I dont wear a jacket or anything with it? Thanks.

- suggest you close teh gap bw tie knot & shirt, move the tie up a fraction so that the tie above teh clip is not too tight.
- I use teh clip to give the tie some life

Any suggestion on what type of knot to use? I just used a simple 4 in hand and think anything else would be dumb looking.

PG - do you ever sport the square end ties (or whatever their name is)? Your thoughts on them?

I am not a fan of bars that are wider than the tie.

I´m going to buy one because my ties always moves a lot to the right when I walk. Perhaps due to my FIH or to teh fact I *** my back bended
eh.gif

Also When I wash my hands and my mouth, I got my tie inside!!

When I drive my convertible with the top down.. It seems dangerous to have my tie flying around.

By the way, I´ll only use it hidden. I don´l like tie bars seen.

No no, i see you have one on today, hence me asking. Im not wearing a jacket or anything, so my questino is: does it look too contrived to wear a tie bar and square end tie together with no jacket?

The second part of the question was on a tie this thin was there a special/secret knot people used? Half Windsor would be a little rediculous, if not totally impossible.

If you still want to sport a bit of jewellery get a pocket watch.

I've never seen a tie bar worn that way. It just doesn't strike me as aesthetically balanced.

This conversation seemed incomplete without any vitriol, so I thought I would add some.

I used to wear a tie bar when I worked in hospitality and couldn't live without it. Most of the men who worked with me wore them also.... it just saved buying a new tie each day! I liked them for their practical uses rather than the look.

Not with square-ended ties. Tread very carefully when the tie bar is as wide as the tie, if it's wider, forget it.
