So I've been lurking about the MC forum, and mafoofan's posts about wearing a lot of the same stuff (primarily his blue MTM Brooks OCBD's and brown Alden longwings) have all really interested me. I'm really digging the idea of staying loyal to a platonic ideal in all aspects of life, rather than buying/doing/saying/wearing cool **** simply because it's cool. My life is very stressful as it is, and it might be nice to never have to worry about what I was going to wear.

So, I'm now considering wearing wingtips, dry denims (dunno what make yet, but something nicer than my APC's), a white undershirt, a pink OCBD, and a charcoal cardigan every day. I'd take of layers as necessary and possibly wear blue & white-striped seersucker shorts are Jack Purcells in the summer. For consistency's sake, I'd consider wearing blue & white-striped undies under my jeans in winter and drawing the Jack Purcell "smile," stripes, and eyelets onto the socks I'd wear under my wingtips.

Am I absolutely off my rocker?

I am trying to find my 'uniform' as well.

I would love to have variations on a common theme within my closet.

I think I am going to try to move towards as close to a non-costume military/workwear look as possible. I can and do wear jeans every day of the year, and chambray works on its own in summer as well as layered in winter. If I got the right pair of boots i could wear a chambray, jeans, boots everyday of the year and feel about right.

You would be dubbed a dapper hobo.

You decide if that's a good thing or not.

wearing the same thing (or more or less the same thing) i think is awesome for work wear because the clothes break in and develop character over time. for stuff like ocbd's and cardigans, it doesn't seem like as good of an idea.

here's a good example

Its nice, but i sorta of see it as giving up on yourself.

I've done this for over a year; Integrity shirt, dior jeans, and vans. I've noticed though that myself at the time and some of my friends who had exclusively one outfit were controlled by their neurosis (whatever it be). It just sort of comes off as weird and unhealthy.

I have one outfit that I default to if I'm too busy or just don't want to put any thought into what I'm wearing.

I think wearing the same thing is awesome. My uniform this year has been a gray t-shirt with jeans and cardigan for winter and gray t-shirt with slim chinos in summer. I wear this pretty much every day. Makes life much easier but I do take pride in taking the jump from heather gray to charcoal once a week. It really spices things up!

please don't wear the same thing every day. if you wanted to buy the same piece in different colors thats fine.

people will think you are disgusting for wearing the same thing over and over. if you're gonna do it, at least buy 3-4 different color shirts and 3-4 different cardigans.

i would be so bored after a week of wearing the same outfit every day.

That's what I do. I have few "uniforms" with slight variations that I split according to the weather. So for example cold weather: peacoat/topcoat, jeans, boots. Cool weather: sweater/cardigan, dark jeans, boots. Warm weather: polo/henley, light jeans, sneakers/boots.

Happening to wear the same thing most days because you really like it is one thing. Deciding to put together a uniform is a different thing.

If you're going to do it, I say go eccentric. If you pick something tasteful and wear it constantly, you just seem dull. If you start wearing a teal jumpsuit everyday, it's at least a conversation starter.

Nothing wrong with dull, by the way, it's just an odd thing to shoot for; it's so easy to achieve without any effort.

Also, he looks like he's put together from several different (but equally strange) human beings.
