I am definitely not purchasing antique items, rather the faux-antique you are referring to...My home is simple and clean, if you had seen it before you would see the eclectic victorian furnishings and wall paper, sconce candles and wall plates - this is more of a user-friendly version of simple living.

I absolutely hate extremely modern furnishings and design in general. I'm 22 and far different than most my age, plus I would never buy Armani or Boss - just not my preference

Either way, I absolutely love what I've done and if no one else in this entire world appreciates it, at least I will

If you like it then that's all that matters, I was just saying that you shouldn't be seeking approval from the people here because you probably wouldn't get it.

also, here is a shot of the new crown molding - I doubled it to accomodate the height of our 10 foot ceilings

I like the architectural details -- but I couln't live with most of the furniture items in this thread.

Interiors like this are so "Martha Stewart" -- could it get any more bourgeois than this?

As far as antiques go, I can't stand Victorian furniture ...but I do love 17th and 18th century fine English and French furniture. Love this interior.

A lot of Modern interior design is just as middle-market as the fake-antique stuff posted earlier. So many interiors rely on the same bland mix of mid-century classics and contemporary production-line furniture to define the space -- we've all seen it 1000 times before.

I'm quite fond of the same era. Modern interior design often leaves me a bit cold inside, maybe because it's too reminiscent of vast empty public spaces. The lack of eclecticism isn't making things better. Finding interesting pieces to fill your home with should require more than picking up a catalogue from dwr.

One modern (1930) interior space I like is Villa Müller by Adolf Loos:

I think the hardwood looks pretty nice. I'm still on the fence on whether to go this color or a lighter color. My planks are thinner than yours. My walls will be almost chalk white, but with a hue of some color. I wish I had 10 ft ceilings. The furniture really isn't my cup of tea. If I were going for your look I'd buy new big pieces like the couch and accent with antiques. Pretty impressive for 22 though.

Interesting, I just realised that the third picture hypersonic posted is pretty much the style my parents used in our house as I grew up.. the fun part however is that personally I couldnt live in a house like that anymore, and tend to gravitate towards more modern furniture with cleaner lines.. funny how that works

I can only speak for myself, but I dont like that "altmodisch" style. It is a bit.. heavy.

I've got to say that I love these couches more and more everyday - feels like I should be puffing a cigar with a glass of bourbon after dumping a body in the lake

Can't wait to save enough to do my home office, wood panelled walls and antique wing chairs

I know chandelier is a Euro thing but in 21st century aesthete, it floods the room with she-man sissyness. I think any style, including the OP's taste, can achieve a level of balance that pleases everyone. However, it is a really difficult style to achieve authentic balance since the most of the furniture and objects of that period demand a certain level of craftsmanship. The Victorian-looking stuff available today with leather made of plastic and wood made of painted pine just won't work.
