Are the lapels ugly on this Isaia suit?

I was thinking about buying this grey Isaia suit, but my wife thinks the lapels are gawd-awfully ugly. She thought the lapels belonged on an overcoat, not a suit jacket.

I thought they looked fine, but I've been accused of being fashion-ignorant at times. Curious what people thought.

Personally, I like edges like that on coats with patch pockets, but no on suit jackets with flapped pockets.

Maybe it's a bit slanted. But they look normal, if you're looking for notched lapels. If you're looking for ... I forget the name ... those wider ones, then you're probably looking for something else.

Nothing abnormal about the lapels. May be something wrong with the picture but not the lapels. There appears a weird fold or stitch line on the lapel edge but you do not see any trace of stitching on the quarters, collar or pocket flaps. Even if it is machine stitched and objectionable, the stitching could be removed. STP has a good return policy, so your safe if you want the suit.

He's talking about the top stitching. It would bother me, personally. I like it on a sportcoat, but not a suit in what appears to be a pretty dry fabric.

She is absolutely right.

This form of stitching was last popular in the 170s - frequently on crimplene suits and looked as dire then as it does now.

Avoid the thing.

Older styled overcoats have this and on them it seems fine.

They say the trimming on a suit shows off the quality of it, and the hand stiching involved. Keeping that in mind I am still not a fan of that style of lapel.

Agree with others that swelled edges or other similar detail as pictured works well on a less formal jacket, i.e. one with patch pockets and more informal fabrics. As pictured, with what appears to be a pretty businesslike worsted wool and flapped pockets, even a ticket pocket, I don't like.
