What do you wear your denim jacket with?

Assuming you have one, or want one, what kind of pants would you wear it with? I saw a dude last night wearing a blue denim jacket with faded black Levi's, and he looked stupid, which got me thinking: "when have i seen this done well, and with what pants?"

Generally, I think denim jackets work best when either the jacket is faded and the pants are dark or the pants are faded and the jacket is dark (both need to be blue too). Unless they're distinctly different shades of blue raw jacket and pants combo can look too close to the whole denim tuxedo.

i think it looks best when both are dark.

canvas pants, faded jeans, jeans in non matching color. I got a shitload of fits with denim jackets I could post if theres "interest".

I think it depends on the type of denim coat. I think faded on faded looks fine (i.e. the strokes, or james franco in freaks and geeks) in terms of type 3 coats. I think a dark chore coat works with rolled denim or duck pants. I think sherpa coats if slim enough are the most utilitarian.

I wear it with matching denim pants, a white tee and some brown boots or white sneakers. Yeah I know.

I prefer it with chinos, but I have seen people pull it off with matching jean colors. It all depends how fitted your outfit is, and what you wear under the jacket, but it can be rocked with pair of jeans. I have never been able to pull it off myself, so I stick with chinos.
