Maybe it's just the bad economy, but what is it about buyers (here or on ebay) and the rude, low ball offers, or asking you to jump through crazy hoops on an item that you've obviously priced REALLY cheaply just to pass on a good deal to others?

I always try to be fair, but good lord, I've just been getting a slew of them and they're driving me nuts. A retail $2500 item that I'm asking $200 or something (and for which I probably paid $500), and I get, "Will you take $15, shipping included?" And then, for that price, they also want me to accept a return if they don't like it, take a bunch of pics and measurements, and drive the item to their house for them to try on or discuss over a dinner for which I must pay.

Okay, not THAT bad... but I've been selling a long time and it seems like the past 3 weeks have seen the most egregiously annoying buyers and potential buyers I've ever encountered. Has anybody else been having higher "annoying" traffic lately?

The truth of this:

"Writers are people for whom writing is harder than it is for other people."

This quarter I'm taking a course on early Christian history. It's a 500-level course but it also fulfills one of the university's general education requirements (Diversity something or another), so there are a fairly significant number of non-history majors and non-traditional students who, I assume, are just taking the class for kicks (I'm talking retired folks in their 60s or 70s). Anyways, it seems a lot of people in that class are wholly unable to comprehend what the study of history is. It's NOT a theology course, yet about once every class someone has to act like their entire worldview has been shattered by inferences drawn from historical inquiry. Today the professor was discussing the two different interpretations of Christ's trial within Matthew, Luke and Mark. The former two use very heavy rhetoric to almost absolve Pilate of blame, instead placing the crucifixion on the shoulders of Jews. Mark (the earliest gospel) does not use such rhetoric, and most scholars believe it is the most accurate portrayal of Jesus' life due to its comparatively early composition date. One guy raises his hand and says, "But wait! in Mark, it says Pilate claimed he was pleasing the crowds by ordering Christ's execution!" She explained that historians believe the rhetoric in Mt and Lk is stronger due to identity crises in the late 1st and early 2nd centuries CE, and this guy got visibly upset and almost cried. The professor again said, "I'm not trying to contradict your religious views, I am simply pointing out what scholars believe." He protested again later in class, on the same point, and the instructor was getting pissed off. She sent out an e-mail explaining her point further after class, but I imagine this guy wants to believe something and will not let contrary interpretations change that.

It bothers me that colleges now have a diversity requirement for getting a degree.

That's going to be the reality in any class based on religion you take. It sucks, but it was like that in all my religion or history classes that involved religion, even the ones that didn't take place at Bible college. People have a hard time separating the two.

Trolling for "babes," Conne? Maybe you'll finally get laid this term! I'm sure that some of them haven't been laid in 20 years either!

Actually, I am wrong. The class isn't part of that "diversity" requirement, but there are still a lot of non-majors there. The massive number of absurd requirements is one of the major problems with modern college curriculums.

Wordsworth is a ******* bore, but maybe I'm just not of "sound mind." At least I don't have to read Proust.
