arrrgh...help me dress for a cruise

busses leave tomorrow at 9am so i have to finish packing tonight. please help.

this is a 4-day cruise down to Cabo. it's a company function. i haven't been on a cruise in about 20 years and i have no clue what to wear.

for the two formal nights, i'm just bringing one suit and changing up the shirts/ties.

but what about the other dinners? the first is a "come as you are casual" so that's not a big deal. the other dinner is supposed to be a business casual. what does that mean on a cruise ship? i was thinking my cream silk RLPL trousers, a pink french cuff shirt, Jil Sander khaki jacket, a sky blue tie, ocean blue pocket square, and white bucks. would that be overkill?

any other suggestions?

Mexico Cruises (esp. short ones) are home to lats of crappy "dressed down" outfits. On "Formal" night you see very little black tie (less then 5% of the men) and maybe only half the men will even have a tie on at all (let alone a nice dark suit)

For the Business Casual nights - it is very Casual. But in truth there always enough guys like me that will wear an odd jacket and tie that you will not be out of place in one.

Unless you're on something like Cunard, nearly all the Cruise Lines' dress codes are a joke. There's always some bloke who arrives with a polo and khakis thinking he's well dressed (if not worse on something like Carnival).

think the colors are going to be a bit off, i would go with a navy tie, navy blazer (gold buttons, you're on a ship!) same pants, square. I dont think i would go with white bucks, they're more of a seersucker look IMO, maybe tan loafers instead.

Ship in a "hot" location though. The light colours would work.

Again though - the outfits on cruise are mostly sh*t. with little to no effort you will look better then most of men on the ship.

Depends on the Cruise Line really. If you're talking Carnival as long as you have sleeves on your shirt and no visible tattoos you'll be better dressed than the majority. If it's something like Holland America you'll need to step it up a bit.

I'd really use the fact it's a 'company function' as more of a guide. At your company, what does business casual mean?
