Fraying Elbows on Suit – are Patches the Solution?

I have a classic black Dior suit that gets *a lot* of wear, and the elbows have worn thin and they are beginning to rip. You can see the lining through it. I love the suit and I'm not really willing to retire it.

Are patches the solution? Is it okay to put elbow patches on a suit (as opposed to a blazer)? And if so, what color and material would be best?

Or do I take this in somewhere and ask them to do what they can?

A BLACK SUIT!! *gasp*

Just kidding, but you will get alot of **** for wearing a black suit here.

Ive always though patches only belonged on odd jackets and tweed (suits or just jackets). Putting patches on a black suit can only be done as an ironic statement.

Second the motion - it's time to retire the suit. Patches only look good on sports jackets. In addition if the elbows are going you can be sure that there are other things wrong that maybe you don't notice but other people will.

Patches will look weird on a suit. Depending on how bad it is, you can look into an invisible weaver. They are a dieing breed, but can do wonders. This service is generally not cheap, but can often do wonders.
