I like that a lot. Also shows how the sleevehead starts being built up like a typical roped military shoulder...when did you get that jacket?

It's from this year.

There is no padding, but a little bit of wadding in the sleevehead. If I had my druthers, I would do without it, but this is not a tailor you can dictate to. Anyway, it looks more pronounced in the photo than it does in real life. Edwin's stuff for me has the same touch of wadding, as does all the A&S stuff I have seen.

No, made from drapes in his house.

Manton,
Is this an attempt for open quarters or did you really pin the jacket and it is pulling the front quarters open? Following the break line thru the lower fronts makes an X.

I did not pin the coat. Maybe I am leaning forward.

Here is a pic where they look closed:

Photos are always tricky, but this coat never looks the same twice. I don't know what it is. When I wear it and admire myself in the mirror (

) it always looks the same and -- frankly -- not quite like either of these pics.

The quarters, FWIW, don't form a perfect X. They are a hair more closed at the bottom than the opening at the top. The "open" pic here is more open than real life, and the "closed" pic is more closed.

The fronts look make a Y rather than an X in the second picture.

Neither pic is really accurate, IMO.

Of course, I could be deluded, like when Homer Simpson looks in the mirror and sees a weight lifter.

Yes, and as you point out, that is simply the early stage...when it settles in, it looks like Il Vecchio's stuff that others and I posted in the best of WAYWRN thread.

Manton, is that the jacket you wore in San Francisco?
