Could someone please explained these two expressions?

The waist is tapered and has an hour glass shape and the lower part of the jacket, from the pockets down flare outward. From the jacket waist down to hem it has an A shape.

Hello all, I am currently getting a bespoke suit made and am quite happy with the way its going. However, I would like to ask a question about doing up a flared skirt on a jacket. The tailor I am currently using recommends that I go for a center vent in order to create the effect I am looking for, however, I am not entirely sure (I do like side vents). I remember a post here saying that the tailor needs to suppress the waist and cut away more of the skirt (or something to that effect) but I am not sure of the technical terms. I do like quite a flared skirt on the jacket, and effectively I am looking for the impact similar to the Kilgour suit here : http://www.savilleparriswakefield.co...kilgour02.html Also, for those who have watched the Savile Row Programme by BBC, the suit worn by David Ward (brent) from Henry Poole is a good example of what I am after. As I am not familiar with technical tailoring, I would very much appreciate the input of you good gentlemen. What instructions should I give my tailor in order to achieve this effect? Or do you need a particular body type to pull this off? Much appreciated.

Center vents do have a more streamlined, slimming look but IMO double vents look cooler and you do sometimes risk look out of proportion, especially if the trousers are on the slim side and the waist is super cinched

I do like side vents - honestly I tried a center vent with a (I assume) crap tailor previously and i ended up looking like a carrot with wide shoulders, narrow waist, and no flared skirt despite my protests. So what should I tell my tailor to get the skirting Im after?

I love that picture of Steed. Perfect example of what a pinched waist can do even on a guy who isn't slim.

Yes. It's Patrick MacNee, who played the character John Steed on the British show The Avengers for years in the 1960s. He was always very well-turned-out.

And the woman is Honor Blackman, who played Catherine Gale on the series from 62-64 (earlier b&w years). She was followed by Diana Riggs as Mrs. Peel. (The producers liked to dress the women in leather a lot.) Ms. Blackman went on to further fame as ***** Galore in Goldfinger. The Tara King years we try to forget.
