I think most of these photos are fakes.

Here are some comments by Ivan Sanderson in his Living Mammals of the World.

Giant Anteaters:

"It grows to an overall length of more than six feet and, despite its idiotic appearance, minute brain and apparently lumbering gait, it is one of the most competent and least often molested of all mammals. Even jaguars give the large males of this species a wide berth, for these animals are amazingly quick and deadly infighters. Their forearms are shaped liked those of a man, enormously muscled, and armed with short, stout fingers bearing gigantic claws....Moreover, they have a habit of waltzing about about on their hind legs with unexpected agility and can then strike with their hands in almost every direction.

Lesser Anteater (Tamandua):

"Tamaduas are incredibly strong for their size....They will defend themselves against all comers by standing on the tripod formed by their hind legs and tail, with arms outstretched and claws open. They slash forward with lightning speed with both arms at once, and their large middle claws can rip a man's arm open."

Fashion Anteater:
Ranging in size from being able to fit in your purse to being able to swing with reckless abandon across a medium sized closet, these normally docile animals will reply with a hearty "**** you, I'm an anteater!!!" when their supply of canned cheese is cut off. They enjoy wearing baby clothes, and their claws are made of kisses.

By far the best one posted so far. I keep imagining the anteater to start talking like Goucho Marx.

What's with the Cheez-Whiz? That can't be good for an anteater.

Is it too early to name a best thread of 2009?
