Brooks Brothers Blazer Button Question

Just purchased a 3/2 sack BB blue blazer off the Bay and upon arrival I see it has dark brass buttons with the Golden Fleece logo.

In comparison, I have double-breasted BB blue blazer (purchased from AlanC) that has shiny brass buttons with what looks like two turrets and a gate or castle between them.

Both coats have traditional BB labels, so I am just curious as to why the different buttons and whether they signify anything? BF, 346 outlet, BB Country Club, etc?

Different Brooks blazers have different buttons. I think right now, the Brooks Ease has a hanging sheep, the Country Club has a BB, and the GF has flat gold buttons with black enamle outlining a hanging sheep. The Regent has pewter buttons with the hanging sheep. I've seend older buttons with some kind of castle design. Not sure what the 346 has.

Which ones that I described?

And looking at it again, I think the ones I thought were dark brass are probably pewter.

How old is your DB blazer?

Way back in the eighties, the castle emblem was used for the BB University line. In terms of descending quality at that time:

1. Golden Fleece

2. 346

3. University

In other words, the lines were arranged generationally...you worked your way up to Golden Fleece.

I'm reaching back that far because I think the castle emblem was discontinued when Marks & Spencer bought BB, and started to ruin it before passing it on to the next owners who ruined it further.

The current owner is okay, though.

Interesting, so they may both be University but from different era's.

The SB is a 3/2 roll sack with patch pockets and a single center vent.

I don't know how old the DB is, but it was one of AlanC's thrift-shop finds that I purchased from him so it could very easily be from the 80's.
