Anybody have experience with their jacket sizing? I ordered a polo from them in the summer and it was horribly oversized.

Outerwear runs true to one size large. I'm a 42 chest and wear XL in most of the outerwear.

Billy Reid does two sizings -- classic and slim. Most stuff nowadays is slim but the classic-cut (polos from the summer for instance) stuff is more of the 'American' cut.

For FW08 they started naming the different cuts for pants and shirts (Tuscumbia/Monroe/Orleans, etc.). In the past the cut was determined by the shirt cuff (square was slim and rounded was classic).

I just ordered the boots too. I'm usually a 10 in shoes and 9.5 in sneakers and Sperrys, and ordered a 9.5, hopefully they fit! *crosses fingers*

So boots fit very well with a thicker sock. I purchased a size 10.5. For reference, I wear an 11 in topsider, 10.5 in chucks, 10 in clarks.

Here's a close up pic of the leather. the sole feels like hard plastic, not a rubbery sole. i don't know much about soles, but first thing came to mind was "cheap" plastic feeling. maybe i'm wrong. someone else might want to chime in on that. there's a nice padded upper. leather laces as why mentioned. i'll comment on comfort when i actually wear them. any thoughts on protecting the leather? anyone think it'll hold up in snow, or is that just a bad idea? sorry for the ****** pics.

The logging boots and every Billy Reid shoe run a size small. I normally wear a US11 and wear a size 10 for Billy Reid. I checked out the logging boot this weekend again -- it's nicer than I remember and has some very cool details (contrast seams, contrast faux-stitched welt). Leather and construction are top-notch. I guess the part I like most about them is that unlike other boots of the same type (Caterpillar, Timberland, etc.) they're more modern and slim. They lace up high with leather laces which is a nice touch.

Yes, they're cordovan.

Just to double check, Cordovan as in regular horsehide or shell cordovan as Alden awesomeness

Shell cordovan = cordovan. There's no distinction here.

Those look nicer than I originally thought, rugged but still sleek and nicely shaped. Just curious, which fits better, your Clarks or your Chucks? I ask because I wear the same size in both and since you wore your Chuck size I'm just curious.

a couple of retailers/manufacturers will call any horsehide cordovan. Cordovan belts, cordovan jackets. For belts i've seen horse-waist or whatever called cordovan, and FQ horsehide jackets called cordovan. And not just the burgundy color either, they were specifically referring to the leather.

I ask because if you zoom in you can see some fine creasing.

humm, kind of hard to compare the two, since one is fabric and the other is beeswax. plus, i lace my chucks pretty tight.

but i guess the boots are roomier compared the my clarks and chucks, as a thick sock won't feel as tight. wearing a thin sock might be loose. humm, maybe i'll try it on some more to give better feedback. i dunno if i answered your question, or helped at all. but let me know if you have any more questions.

Also, not all cordovan is of the same quality. Apparently there has been a lot of Japanese cordovan popping up lately, including J. Crew's cordovan penny loafers, that is simply not of very good quality. If you are wanting to pick up some shell cordovan footwear, I'd stick with the main players. In the US Alden really is the best choice. I want to pick up a pair of their plain toe bluchers in #8 shell cordovan sometime here.
