Engineered Garments - but for Women

This is a difficult question and your true broad knowledge of clothes will be tested.

Background: I'm shopping for my Mom (Xmas) and she has requested that I find her some outdoorsy sort of clothes. She lives on a small ranch in the hill country of Texas and really doesn't own much of anything beautiful or particularly well constructed (though she used to and grew up shopping at Neiman's in Dallas. Her mom even had The Marcus of Neiman Marcus try and seduce her away from her husband - true story!)

Question: What is a women's equivalent of something like Engineered Garments (outdoorsy, tough clothes that are at home on the trail or ranch but are feminine) I have been dismayed by the selection and hideousness at LLBean and REI and am trying to find alternatives which aren't too expensive. I know that EG had a line called FWK, but it is really only available in Japan from what I can tell (and course will probably be pricey).

Help!

Filson supposedly have a womens line, and Barbour aswell. Barbour would probably be more "feminine", but of course not Eg styled...

this is a useless response, but the EG sample sale had a wonderful EG jacket for women. it was number sized and not fenwick. it was a nylon qulted shell and simple and perfect. had i had extra money i would have gotten it for no good reason but alas i didn't.

Argh. There just really don't seem to be any good options. The blog linked had the author ripping Filson's women's line as grossly and absurdly sized and everything else on the blog are bags. Seems a niche ready to be exploited.

hummingbird, I think the archival clothing author is really petite, and have very distinct tastes. Your mom might be easier to satisfy.

I've revisited the Filson for Women line and found a few garments in XS which are a little more stylish and tailored in fit. You might look at the women's wool timber jacket, the women's tin cloth creek jacket and the women's shelter cloth logger jacket. In XS, the tin cloth creek jacket has a really nice slim/trim fit with moleskin trim on the inside placket and moleskin lined pockets. It's also a total bargain at $124.00.

You might also look at Beretta for Women or Bemidji Woolen mills. I have a Highland roll cuff jacket on order with Bemidji although delivery is 6 weeks out so this may not be a holiday shopping option for you.

Worth looking at if only for the great lookbook scans.

I have mixed feelings about that collection. The presentation is interesting, but I don't think I would want to buy any of that for my girlfriend.
