I tried this a couple months back and got some pretty good results so I thought I'd try it again. If anything else I learned I needed to get some dark pants so now I have some for this go around. I actually now have two pair thanks to SoCal :thankyou: The problem I have today is that I'm still color-stupid. Please help. Vote and provide comments if you know of something else you've seen me wear and think would look better. Setting: Holiday cocktail party at a casino (I'm not expecting it to be very holiday-y). Parameters: Navy EG Bedford with either MJK trousers (shown) or the metallic-cotton Tim Hamilton pants seen here. Will probably wear black JV Mercer boots but also have options with some black J&M's, patent navy OC's, dark brown Alden wingtips or the Alden Indy in a light brown. Basically everything found here. How bad of an idea is brown shoes with black pants? Options (this is what you're voting on): 1) TYLHO

2) EG

6) el cheapo - it's not shiny like it looks in the pic and I'm told it's a blue-green mix

10) Something else you've seen me wear and will provide specifics in a comment below! Ignore the background, that's just my bed during sheet-wash day and try not to suggest I wear a tie because I don't have any I like and I don't think it's necessary. I just need help making the colors work. As bluemagic would say:

. Thanks.

what would be awesome is if you took a picture of you and all of your clones wearing each outfit together.

I kind of thought the blue jacket, white shirt, black pants, navy shoes would be a cool mix.

These posts are fun but would be even funner if you cloned each outfit into single shot...

I think this is where a tailored suit would do well unless you're really going for the trad look.

This is what I decided on. Oddly enough, it wasn't one of my options.

Not really feeling the TaT sweater with the bedford style jacket but i'm just really glad you have some non-jean pants. The vneck pattern is kind of distracting and isn't vibing with the workwear jacket. I'd personally wear just the shirt and jacket. Pants fit you really well though.

I tried it both ways (sweater on/off) and it just seemed to ordinary with it off so I left it on. Also, it has two small black stripes around the edges so I thought that might be a hidden tie in with the black pants. Also, I think the worker-wear-ish jacket itself is what doesn't really match the rest. But whatever, I don't need to look perfect, just me. I'll probably let the girl decide if the sweater stays or not.

Girls generally like sweaters so i'm sure it will stay. I don't know. I don't have a giant closet. I have a fair amount of mediocre stuff so the only thing i can really do is try and compose things well. Make sure colors, textures, patterns, and general moods vibe well for something cohesive. That is when i'm trying to compose a solid outfit. A lot of times i'm in rags. I think it looks acceptable as is. And i would disagree somewhat that the sweater makes it instantly cooler than if you went just with the shirt and jacket. If things work really well, i think being put together will make it stand out. At least to me. Either way, i think you'll be fine.

Btw, what shoes are those? They look like dress shoes but seem to have a completely flat sole. I have a pair of opening ceremony laceups like that but i didn't know you owned a pair of OCs.

Yep, those are OC's in patent navy. Got them a couple months back from one of the BlueBee sales. I think they worked out really great with what I was wearing. The evening went well and I was glad I was there in a sweater and an odd blazer/jacket. Most everyone else there was in a business suit or 3/4 of a business suit. It was a fun holiday part, these people should have dressed more like it was.

Bonus: I know understand how to bet/play craps. I could see myself betting on this game at a real casino someday.

Well when I said most everyone was in a suit that was to say most everyone over 40. The younger half of the crowd looked like they took the suit they had on that day and removed the jacket and tie. Actually, that kind of makes sense since it was on a Friday evening. It's not like everyone had all day to get changed. Anyways, wasn't my office.
