I Wore a Brown Suit to an Interview

Does this even matter anymore? Will my SF membership be revoked?

I've never worn brown to an interview before because I do have some respect for the rules, but was in the mood to do something that would cause women to faint and children to cry. The suit in question is a soft-shouldered single-breasted 2B in dark brown with a subtle herringbone pattern.

(For context: this was a government policy analyst position and I ended up with an offer.)

All this handwringing about suits for interviews is just so much gas. I've never been dinged for wearing brown. Good show!

There may be some agricultural stuff, but it's a broader economic policy and sectoral analysis gig.

This rule definitely doesn't apply anymore. If this job was in Washington, I think you may agree most of the bureaucracy doesn't care about what you wear. Mostly everyone is wearing shirts that are two sizes too big and suits that fit waay too large. Also if women can wear club attire to work (not saying that I mind it) then why can't a man wear a brown suit!

I swear that I read brown gives the impression that you are a follower. This isn't necessarily negative. The context that I read it in was comparing brown uniforms such as German uniforms during WWII. I got the impression that wearing brown gave the signal that you were a follower/team-player. Correct me if I misunderstood something. Anyhow, wearing brown to a interview for the government might not be a bad idea.

I was a bit conflicted on this decision. There are some good points made above about what a brown suit signifies and how that may be appropriate in the government. And few people these days have any idea that wearing brown to an interview is questionable.
