I had the impression that typical british / Savile Row SB jackets tend to be 3 button and "american style" jackets are more often 2 button.

Does this make sense to you?

I don't think it's as rigid as you suggest these days, but I do know that I get politely steered back to a 3-button when I've ordered bespoke suits from my tailor. MTM from the same tailor, it doesn't happen and I have a variety of buttonings... but for bespoke, I do notice a little subtle steering towards 3B jackets. I find it rather endearing in a way and have stuck with their advice for now.

Ok. Let me ask my question in other words.

A typical Savile Row (suit) jacket is:

a) rather a 3 than a 2 button
b) rather a 2 than a 3 button.

No, a saville row jacket is fitting. And the number of the buttons depends on ...

Funny you ask. The issue of 3s and 3-roll-2s and plain 2s would just discussed with unabating thoroughness here. At least, I think that's what they were talking about.

I got lost in the technical terminology and advanced vocabulary of it all around page 3 -- but then again, I'm not a tailor, I just play one on TV.

To answer the OP more seriously, I personally haven't seen a tendency for one button configuration to be more common to either culture, but others more educated in these matters than I may know a reason that there might be one.

Could someone please post a picture of a Savile Row 2 button jacket?

Many thanks!
