Paypal/eBay "holds" on payment - what fresh hell is this?

So, I just received payment via PayPal on an eBay BIN item.

Or rather, I didn't.

Because it was "held" by PayPal. But I still have to send the item out, with the funds only being released after 21 days (or after getting a positive feedback, whichever is sooner). PayPal refer me to their Policy on Payment Holds

My DSR average is 4.81 (significantly ahead of eBay's average), I have 100% feedback, have been on eBay for years, and have no dissatified buyers. Oh wait, I've just spotted the problem - I only have 19 DSR reviews in the past 12 months, instead of the required 20 in 12 months to never get holds. How ridiculous!

Whose bright idea was this....

Has this happened to anyone else?

That sucks Hold. The best way around this would be to give me all the 38 RL stuff that you pick up.

Not sure, but I believe this was discussed a month or two ago on SF. Either way it's still a shoddy situation for the seller. Ebay does everything it can to squeeze the seller, it's almost scary...

sucks of course. But it makes no real difference, paypal holding your funds before you ship, reversing your payment afterwards. They hold your balls either way

eBay needs some proper competition....

You have a point, unfortunately.

No, just a regular address in the USA. Item was listed on the UK ebay site, but I've sold plenty of items from the UK site to the USA with no holds before. According the policy, it's not linked with the buyer's status, but the seller. Even when the seller has a perfect feedback record. Lame.

Bull like this makes me wish Propay will actually catch on. Sadly I don't see buyers being motivated to switch over

This is a terrible policy from paypal. I've never had any issues but I've heard some horror stories.

If there's one upside to the economic meltdown, it's that it will put the screws to eBay. Perhaps they'll be less inclined to treat sellers like crap when sellers have less economic interest in bothering with eBay at all. If my latest items don't move with the cashback offer, no way I'll continue to pay eBay's outrageous fees for nothing.

This new policy is ridiculous. PayPal is holding your money after you have sent the item out at your expense and risk, awaiting a buyer to post feedback even after receiving your item. Meanwhile, they make interest on the money they are holding.

That's reason I stopped selling on ebay. Your payment hangs in limbo, but you still have to send the item. The seller can then take his/her time to update the feedback or leave negative feedback and cause a major nightmare. I had a customer hold me hostage after he recieved an item bnwt, and his complaint was that it didn't arrive in 3 days, and that it was damaged. I asked to photo the damage area, and email me the images. He never did, but opend a complaint in paypal, which took almost a month to get my money.

It's hell dealing with the ebay/paypal nightmare.
