Shoes of Rockport or Ecco

Hello,

I'm a new comer here.

Just wonder how the formal shoes of Rockport or Ecco , together with suite?

I have seen many more Rockports that are acceptable for suits than I have Eccos. Ecco is very fond of its clunky rubber soles. That being said, don't buy either. Look around the forum a little for an idea of dress shoes that are worth the money. The classic example is Allen Edmonds, which isn't a bad value, even at the retail price nobody ever pays.

If this is your first shoe other than a tennis shoe than the Rockport should be fine. Many people on this site will recommend very high end things and while those are nice it can be a little rough to transition from wearing jeans and tennis shoes to wearing wool slacks and leather soled shoes.

However, If you can afford it and that is what you are looking for, I would definitely recommend the Allen Edmonds, being that the Rockport will only last one year.

I definitely agree with everyone else- go for the Allen Edmonds if you can. While I've seen somewhat respectable Rockports and Eccos, they certainly will never be anything impressive, and there are definitely better options out there.

Florsheim has some ok shoes that can be had for relatively cheap in a pinch. The problem is most (not all though) of their shoes are rather inelegant and clunky.

If you're patient, wait around for sales, check eBay, or the B&S forum here for some Allen Edmonds or other respectable brand to come around in your size/style.

Ecco is rather clunky and not very stylish. Good build quality and very comfortable, though. I have several pairs of Ecco for use in the winter and bad weather days.

When I was still in school, I bought a pair of Rockports, hoping that I could wear them both with a suit and with business casual type stuff. I was very disappointed with the purchase. The shoes didn't hold up well at all, didn't look quite right with a suit, and didn't look quite right with casual/business casual cloting.

In the past, I've also purchased Florsheim. Decent shoe -- much better than the Rockports, but didn't last long, either. Many on this forum don't care for Johnston & Murphy, but I think that they can be a great value. I find them comfortable, and the construction is leaps and bounds above what you get with Rockport or Florsheim. Similar, in some ways, to AE, but less expensive.

Another questions I would bring up is where to get the AE kind stuff: when I go to U.S, the shopping mall and factory outlets are the places I go shopping. And Rockport/Ecco/Bass are easy to get, buy AE.....
Maybe I can try J&M, it can be get in outlets anyway.

Where are you writing from? You've obviously got internet access, so you can buy AE on line. First stop: eBay, for both used from individual sellers and seconds from the AE outlet store. Good luck. AE's a swell shoe.

I'm living in Shanghai, China. I works for an American company ,so travel to U.S from time to time...

I buy stuff for China online shops, but never tried Ebay or someone abroad..maybe you are right, probably I can try on-line sales this time.
