RLBL lapel puckers out ever so slightly--fixable?

Good afternoon, friends.

As noted in another thread, I recently purchased an RLBL suit, with which I am passionately in love. HOWEVER, today, upon wearing it for a second time, I have discovered that my left lapel "puckers" (correct term?) ever so slightly away from my chest. That is to say, while the right lapel is flush against my chest, the left lapel sails ever-so-gently away from my chest.

Console me, friends--is this fixable? I know sever "puckering" out like this is a sign that one needs a new jacket...but this? Slight enough not to notice it in the fitting or the first wear, but now irritating. What say you, SF Soothsayers?

This is not puckering, but post pics. It could be fixable by letting out the side seams a bit.

Are you wearing a pocket square? Sometimes a large pocket square will raise the left side of my jacket away from my chest (not just the lapel).

If it's just the lapel, I would try steaming.

I am wearing a pocket square, it's not raising it too much but let me see what the effect is sans square. I will try to post a picture soon.

Removing the pocket square makes some difference, but the jacket is not as flush/snug with my chest on the left as it is on the right. Is this just a function of having a canvassed jacket (never had one before) the that side of the jacket being the button-hole side that goes over the other whilst buttoned?

Looking at it, it's really slight, but I'm sort of anal retentive. I wonder if I'm imagining it.

Could one of your pecs be slightly bigger than the other one, thus affecting the way it sits on your chest? After years of lifting, my left pec is slightly bigger than the right (because i'm right handed and the left has had to work harder to keep up). Jacket doesn't usually lay flat.

In any event, if the problem is really slight, after a few more wears you won't care. There really are more significant problems in life.

I recently received a black label I purchased here at Styleforum. The lapel was doing that a bit on mine as well. When I took it to William Field's to have it tailored, he noticed it and said that he would "reset" the lapels for me. I asked him if that was common and he said it happens with certain brands but it was very easy to reset.

This could be one of two things. It doesn't sound like "puckering" though.

- a fit issue
- a pressing issue

If the suit has been in transit, it's always worth getting it hand-pressed after tailoring to ensure it's ready to be worn. Suits have a tendency to develop a little creasing during transit and this may affect things like lapels.

If the difference remains after pressing, then it might be a fit issue. This could be down to any number of little anatomical quirks and it's probably best to get a tailor to look at it. Having said that, if it's a really minor difference, you might see if it settles down after a few wearings. Canvassed suits do have a tendency to "soften up" and mould themselves a little to the body. Not much, but enough that a half-dozen wearings can make a difference.

I noticed mine did this. I simulated moving the button, hold the suit as if it were buttoned tighter and it sat flat against my chest. I'm waiting to take it to the tailor.

Holdfast--I suspect it is a pressing issue. Looking down as I wear the jack it, it appears that the roll of the left lapel is a bit wider than that on the right; I imagine a pressing would take care of it but we'll see. I'm going to a tailor for a trunk show tomorrow so I'll probably get it looked at then.

I happened to be at a tailor's for a trunk show last night and was wearing the suit. The tailors (both in their mid to late 20s) said it was definitely that I had a low shoulder. Does that sound crazy? I've never heard that before and it seems like moving the buttons down a tiny bit or repressing it might take care of the issue.

I need to post pictures tonight or tomorrow.

Sounds like a pressing problem.

I can't rule out a pressing fix but a low shoulder could certainly cause this issue, or at least that's the culprit with me. When my tailor adds a slight amount of padding to my right shoulder, the jacket lies perfectly flat
