SF Cribs: The places behind the clothes

I just picked up a pair of chairs like the ones below, without cushions. Anyone know a source for interesting fabrics? I will likely have the cushions custom-made.

The entire purpose of clothes is for them to be seen and worn. Audio gear is more or less supposed to be heard.

I really don`t care for audio gear myself, but since the beginning of fine audio gear (the huge record players), wasn`t it meant to be displayed?

Sleek, hidden audio gear seems to me as something fairly recent.

Perhaps I'm off base here, but the message I got was that prominently displaying one's audio equipment was paramount to "dick-swing'n". Or in other words...showing off your "stuff".

Yes, clothes are meant to be worn, and therefore people are going to see them in the process. But you're talking as if it had a purely utilitarian function, and as we all know, nobody would be on this forum if that were all there was to it. In terms of this forum, all matters of attire are purely about image. It doesn't matter if it's the clothes you wear, the watch you have or the car you drive...it serves the same purpose...we're showing off our "stuff" to cultivate a personal image to others...your ego just limits it to whatever area of interest you may have.

To a serious audiophile, impressing people with your "fancy" equipment has little or no place in the scenario...and in fact, the opposite of swing'n one's dick, because the point of listening to music on your system is for purely personal enjoyment...not to impress others (not to say one doesn't take pride in letting others listen as well).

And yes, the point of audio equipment is to reproduce sound. I just don't get the logic you are suggesting...sound waves are invisible...audio equipment is not. Why must it be hidden from view? I understand that from a purely "decor" perspective, it is generally considered difficult to deal with...but that's more a reflection on the kind of electronics the average person has, and the importance of that equipment within their personal lifestyle, along with conventional accepted wisdom concerning decor and electronics.

Unfortunately, to "hear" properly, requires fairly precise set up within the room in which it is listened to. And a serious audiophile (who doesn't have the option of a proper designated listening room), is going to compromise on the side of the audio, rather than on the side of decor...that's just the sacrifice one makes to enjoy their personal interests to the fullest.

And who's really to say that handsomely crafted audio equipment is not as beautiful as any other decor accessory to have in your interior. Even cables need not be hidden, as they can be of jewel like quality (and in some cases...cost as much).

Very few people are serious audiophiles, so I understand why people can't relate.

A little update, my home still isn't done yet. I hope the contractor will be done by february. So I can move all my stuff in, finally. if the contractor makes the february deadline he spent a full year working on it.

About 5'000sqft, in a nice neighbourhood. Yellow exterior (forget what you call the type), 2 story home, wooden or marble floors, rather "old" looking, lots of family treasures left, fire place, chippendale furniture. My country house is much larger, is a typical house you'd find in the Hamptons on the water except it's in Maine. Light blue. Two story. Lots of land. Dock for the sailboat and powerboat.

Nonsense- the desire by one to show off is a characteristic of the individual- not the hobby.

There are those who want Mackintosh for the sound... in a cabinet... and those who desire to show off it's glow... just as there are car aficionados who prefer and understated jag to an ostentatious lambo or "loudly" styled fashions versus Brooks Brothers.
