Chiral,

How do those boots fit? I'm thinking of placing an order. My only problem is if I do order a pair, it'll be my 2nd brown boots because I've got a pair of brown Butteros.

To everyone,

Which company makes good Chukkas?

If you happen to be a size 11.5-12, I have a pair of Banana Republic chukkas on sale for cheap.

The best chukkas of them all is probably the John Lobb Luffield which Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale. A bit more affordable is the Tetbury from Crockett & Jones.

^^^^nice. I love the color and stitching on the trend concepts. How are they? are they just 1460s with a different sole? The toe shape looks a little slimmer from that angle. are they made in england?

They fit a bit larger than marked, in my opinion. Not a full size though, I wear them with thick hiking socks and its fine. But with LL Bean, if theres any problems or you're not happy you can return with no problems at all.

I really like the "trend concept" models a lot. They're made in Thailand but looking at em, it looks really well made. These have full grain leather, very similar in feel and thickness to Red Wing GT leather. It's even called "Excel", but I dont know if it's the same Horween "Chrome Excel" that Red Wing uses. but the shape looks a little different than the 1460/1461s, but that could be an optical illusion since they appear the same and feel same when worn. I prefer the standard white stitching on these, over the traditional yellow safety stitching that they're famous for.

The oxblood shoes (1461) and boot (1460) are MIE models. And the dark oxblood shoes aren't actually DM but Solovair, which is the Northampton-based company that originally made Doc Marten (and still does for their MIE line iirc)

Pantser, yes the white laces signify a subculture thing, but the color doesnt have any meaning.

Does anyone know if the new MIE Docs are noticeably different/better than the MIC Docs from the last few years?

I my 1460s enough that if they're really better, it's worth getting them. But if it's just for a warm feeling and and some different writing on the bottom, not so much.

(I also thought that RW GTs would take the place of my Docs, but that didn't really happen. I love my GTs, but they just have a different feel and fill a different niche.)

Almost all of my shoes are from clearances, internet sales, ebay, buy/sell forum. The 2 most expensive are the Crockett Jodhpurs ($369 on sale) and the GTs for $212 new. I probably average about $150 per pair. just takes patience...

They are Crockett Jones Cottesmore made for Barneys, but its identical to CJ's current version. Great time to buy direct from UK, it would be about $450 shipped for first quality pairs.
