Hello all,
Fashion illiterate seeking advice. I rarely wear a tie, but prefer to wear casual dress shirts with fairly conservative colors and patterns. I have broad shoulders, long arms, medium to slender build and a short torso, long legs. Yes, this combination means every shirt with 16 inch collar and 35 inch arms fits me like a tent. Ridiculous. So, will be doing online MTM. Possible to get good quality fabrics in $60-$80 range? If so,where? Nialma? Tailorshirt.com?Mytailor.com? Land's End? If I wear the shirt out on occasion, what style should I get? Thanks for your thoughts.

I recommend something with a bit of color but it all depends on the features of the shirt and how casual you want it to be.

If you want to tuck it in go for a stripe with a bit of color and have no pockets.

For more casual un-tucked shirts consider having 2 button down flap pockets in a more earthy toned shirt or in a checked pattern. You just have to ask the website you use to have 2 pockets - I have done this and really like the look....sleeves rolled back a little.

Everyone on the forum has their different site of choice and most of us have tried a few - I have been going with nialma because they are accommodating when it comes to small details etc. If you do their 4 for 3 it works out to be about about $70 a shirt...

Other sites I have tried - mytailor and they have fabric in the same price range - just not as easy to communicate with and take along time to make them.

Good luck. Ultimate key in getting a good shirt online MTM is to get your measurements right.

Hello tbuck,

and welcome.

Why doing it online. Perhaps there are local tailors?!

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Jantzen, and at $50 a pop it can't be beat. ymmv.

Personally I like TailorStore. I've had less than satisfactory shirts from MyTailor and Nialma. The shirt I have from KJ Beckett is very good but they're a bit more expensive than the others (£90+).
