Instant. I endured this for the past two weeks while away from home and it was tough. Also, Medaglia Doro is not what it used to be.

I have my Sicilian grandparents stovetop espresso maker and it only has 2 chambers, not like the 3-chambered pots I keep finding on the internet. I would love to make myself a shot of espresso in the mornings but I have no clue to how to use it. The spout is on the bottom chamber and the second chamber is a flat bottomed filter (not funnel shaped like the moka). Can you tell me how to use it and how much coffee per amount water to use? Thanks!!

In that case, everything north of Rome is Swiss.

Angela, can you post some pictures of it?

Thanks.

Freshcutgrass makes a great point. Coffee starts to age as soon as it's roasted, and goodness knows how old those beans were when they were ground and put in the pods.

Thanks. A decent burr grinder is a necessity if one hopes to make a good (or even passable) shot of espresso. People looking to buy an espresso machine need to budget for a grinder, unless they are looking at Nespresso pod-only machine or a superautomatic with a built-in grinder.

Other method of cheap home roasting is a breadmaker and a heat gun (like a paint stripper)... But its a bit more involved than the popcorn maker. lol

Other machine I'd add to this thread is a La Pavoni Europiccola (or other lever La Pavoni??)

They would be the vintage Aston Martins of the coffee world. Because one was used by James Bond in one of the early movies at his apartment. He made a cappucino for M. She just said "Is that all it does?" lol

Go to Williams-Sonoma and ask for a cup of nespresso from the black pods. The stuff is really good. You will be surprised, I think.
