Button-down collar shirts...

I know this has been discussed before somewhat but please bare with me. I have a button-down collar sport shirt from D&G, when buttoned up, it creates almost a mandarin collar. I think it looks better unbuttoned, allowing the collar to rest to the sides somewhat instead of being buttoned straight down. Is it ever acceptable to unbutton the collar of this shirt? Thank for the help, you stuffy dandies!

I think it's fine as long as it's a sport shirt. I probably wouldn't wear a tie with an unbuttoned, button-down collar.

Unbuttoned buttondowns generally look very contrived on non-Italians.

I was always under the impression that you have to keep the button down collars buttoned down. Otherwise your shirt will look ackward with the unused buttonholes on the collar and the small buttons on the body of the shirt.

It does look different, and funny of even strange to some, but it is a "look;" and if you are into that sort of thing, by all means let them flap in the wind. Be prepared for comments, because you will get them.
