Would you buy a solid charcoal grey odd jacket?

Solid charcoal grey odd jackets, 3BSB, notch lapels.

I saw rackfulls of these today (definitely NOT orphaned suit jackets by the way). Very high-end maker.

I just don't get it... what would you wear them with?

I bought a dark gray, not quite charcoal, cashmere odd jacket several years ago. I often wore it with either tan or black pants. It was a nice jacket but not one of my favorites. I think I kept it only a couple of years.

What about a black jacket with a herringbone weave in the manner of a stroller? I have been contemplating one of these for suitless days.

I have a subtle nailhead charcoal that you actually sold me.

Works with light grey pants OK, but it's probably most in it's element with some slim dark jeans.

If anything, with jeans, but without seeing them it just sounds odd.

I wouldn't buy one, but I'm guilty of sometimes wearing a gray flannel jacket (from a suit). Usually with dark jeans. It's got patch pockets so I figured I could get away with it as a sports coat.

Um... ah... well.... look, it has a pattern, at least, which makes it different!

(I don't remember selling a 3BSB charcoal nailhead jacket, to be honest. A 2BSB, yes I think a couple of times, but 2B I can understand due to the different silhouette. It's the 3BSB unpatterned solid charcoal odd jacket that I struggle with)

No, no pattern. Not even flannel. Solid worsted. I wasn't even close to buying it, don't worry. Just curious as to how others might use them.

Naff was precisely my thought.

BTW, in case any of you were wondering, the maker is Saint Andrews for RLPL. I saw at least 10 of these jackets across various sizes, the internal St Andrews tag clearly indicating they're not orphans, but intended as odd jackets.

I also have a (solid) darker grey blazer and it is quite versatile. I can wear it with most outfits (black, grey, blue, white or even pink and lavender shirts and jeans, black and grey pants). It is my "default" blazer.

The blazer has no pattern at all - just solid, but a nice shade of grey. Surprisingly, I get more compliments on that particular blazer than on other article of clothing I wear with it.

I have a dark grey twill Pal Zileri Sartoriale sport coat. I get a lot of use out of it, but I'd say my tastes have been further styleforumized since I bought it and I don't think I'd buy it again today.

Actually, it's probably more accurate to say that many things I've picked up have been due to price and opportunity rather than deep abiding love of garment. This jacket is one such item, purchased cheaply on the B&S forum. Now that I have a lot of stuff I'm realizing that I'm better off buying exactly what I want rather than that "super good deal." There are threads dealing with this common phenomenon, but I suppose what I'm saying is that I never wanted a dark grey twill sports coat, but I got one. I would like a light grey donegal tweed jacket, though.

Me too. Actually, I would do mine as a suit and wear the jacket as a seperate when the spirit moved me.
