I'm going to need a tuxedo some time in the next couple of years and have been putting some thought into what I'd like. While I don't think you can go wrong with peak lapels, a shawl lapel is an intriguing option.

No Notches! If anyone orders any ******* notches, I'm leaving.

I prefer peaks, but it really comes down to personal choice.

Just get DB. You don't even need to think of anything else other than the color.

Some are born DB, and some have DB thrust upon them.

I might just go that route. What are your thoughts on the versatility? Will I ever need a non-DB tux?

Notch lapel tuxedos are an amusing concept, like wearing converse with suits. Sure it might be fun, trendy, seasonal, or fashion-y for a time but only when a small fraction of people do it, and when it becomes the norm, it becomes absolutely ridiculous looking.

I saw a nice notch-lapel tuxedo for sale a few months back, but it wasn't black or midnight blue, but a dark purple-red. I think the manufacturer called the colour "merlot", but I'm not sure. Still, I held out for a (black) peak-lapel DJ.
