In case anyone's interested, there's a BBC 2 program thats been running over here called British Style Genius, looking principally at the history of English clothing, with episode 2 being pretty much exclusivly on Saville Row... it's worth a look, and also conveniently online. I dunno if i should post the link here but here it is anyhow, hope it works.

Enjoy

I'd love to watch it though. It sounds fascinating!

At least it taught me one thing -- that "lapel" does not rhyme with "label"!

The majority of the programme was a less well realised retread of what appeared in the BBC4 Savile Row doc earlier this year. There was a lot on Paul Smith's success in Japan without a great deal of insight beyond the Japanese are fond of the 'British classics with a twist' thing which is hardly a major scoop considering the success of Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood there.

The only segments I found relatively interesting were Michael Caine and Roger Moore on Douglas Hayward and to a lesser extent Timothy Everest.

Overall, scrappy and unfocused. The Savile Row documentary was much better in my view.

Thanks for the link its quite interesting.

When they did the bespoke jacket for that guy, at about 11:30 in the clip, doesn't that back of the jacket have too much winkle (don't know the term for it...) when he was wearing it?

I noticed that too. Like a pool of ripples between his shoulder blades.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably have a look just because.

Karl Matthews had a different look (and a different name) in the programme.
