Best impractical fun car 40-50K

There's some good N. American made cars in this range, some you can get new, some you'll have to get used.

Viper, used
Corvette, used
Dodge Challenger (the souped up version) new
Mustang, (whatever they're calling their fastest version this year) new

For nearly 100% impractical, either a Ford Lightning or Dodge SRT pickup. Both are useless as a pick up, have no cabin space, and go like bats out of hell.

I'd add the Pontiac G8 GT to that list. You can get it new and still have $10K back in your pocket. Of course, you don't turn many heads driving a pontiac. I test drove one...it's a beast.

A brand new Suzuki Hayabusa.

More adrenaline and even less practical than the Lotus. Also at a better price point.

If you can find one of the few who were built, IÂ´d definitely consider a Marcos TSO. RHD only, but judging from the few tests that were made, it's got to be a hell of a fun to drive.

It's actually a pretty good looking car, unfortunately it's too practical for this thread. Outside of the Lotus....the Ariel Atom is the most impractical yet fun car.

I know two people that have the Elise and they love it. It makes no sense in the rain or snow, is almost obnoxiously loud, will make your teeth shutter, has almost no storage room, and is very small but it corners like it's on rails and is very fast and exotic looking. It's also fairly reliable from what they tell me.

Only downside was that the body panels seem a little flimsy. One of the owners has a steep driveway and when the bumper scraped, unlike most urethane bumpers that may flex the Lotus bumper cracked. Looked like fiberglass to me. But hey that just adds to the impracticality.

Way too practical, already have a 3-series coupe as a safe people mover.

Just an example. I could score a similar one at the local Porsche dealer for $45k.

I do find them a bit gay, I think it might be worth stretching for a 911.

I don't think the Boxster is either. It's a great mid-engined roadster for what you pay for it.

If I remember correctly, they made Exige in 2006 without a supercharger.. And now they make ELise S/C as well, just to make it more complicated. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Regardless, I would take either Exige over just an Elise.
